New user, controller not working

Hi all!
I'm sure there's a thread for this but I'm new and I haven't found it yet, so I apologize. I recently downloaded crusade 0.9, and I can't get my controller to work. I know it's not officially supported, so I downloaded joy2key (free version) and set up my controller. It works find on programs like windows explorer and notepad. But when I launch the game, it seems to disregard the controller and I can't use it. What am I doing wrong?
